Same for me: This was also a fantasy film from the 1980s I knew of but never got around to watching in its entirety until a couple months ago. I was pleasantly surprised, it's a pretty good movie! Killing the headstrong princess felt kind of ballsy, no movie today would try that.
Now I've got to finally try and watch all of Krull...
For a long time, I was actualy thinking of Hawk the Slayer when I thought I was thinking of Krull, except for the Glaive, of course. So while I know I've seen Krull, I don't remember much. I might have to rewatch it too.
I tried watching Krull with my wife some years ago, but we bounced off it. Maybe I'll be in a better mood next time around. I did watch Hawk the Slayer around the same time, and it's not a good movie, but I kind of appreciated the vibe: it felt like some guy got some friends together and filmed the story of his early 80s D&D game on his uncle's vast rural property.

One of my favs from a time long ago
It really was pretty entertaining. I bet you'll find that it holds up pretty good, if you revisit it.
